about sunny girl E-mail

I haven’t had anything on this page for a while so I thought that I would compose an autobiography and mention those who have helped me get where I am today.  I apologize for the roughness, this is a work in progress that I’ll continue to update and rearrange.

When I was three, my parents bought me a Casio keyboard and I was taught the basics.  After learning the C Major Scale, my father gave me my first harmonica.  He created a system to help me learn where the notes are on the harmonica and he showed me how to play my first song, "You Are My Sunshine".  After that, I learned how to play many songs on my own, especially the patriotic ones for my grandparents and relatives who served in the military.  When I was six, I met my mentor Larry the “Iceman” Eisenberg at a SPAH (Society for the Preservation and the Advancement of the Harmonica) convention and I studied with him until he moved to Florida a few years later.  He is one of the most influential people in my life and an excellent teacher because he has an extraordinary gift; he is able to bring out the abilities in other people and teach them how to use their talents to their fullest potential.  My vocal teacher Ms. Terry Crawford, whom I have been taking lessons from for six years now, is also a gifted person with this ability.  I cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me!

I have been most fortunate to meet and share the stage with many talented people. I’ve learned that being around that creative atmosphere is what brings out the best in me.  I love how art and music interacts with each other and I am intrigued by its ability to inspire others to be artistic as well. As far as my ambitions for the near future, I will achieve a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications. I will also explore the many methods of image reproduction and learn how to apply them to customizing instruments and their accessories.

My musical goals are to continue performing, composing, and recording with my close and expanding family of musicians. Currently, my band members are Dan Dekuyper (guitar/vocals), Randy Volin (guitar/vocals), Gary Ellis (drums/vocals), Rudy Alcala (bass/vocals), and Rodney Peace (guitar/vocals). My sister Rockyn’ Robyn is learning keyboards and we are working on material as well. They are amazing musicians and I’m very lucky to be working with them!

I’m also very thankful to be able to say that I have now been performing for about 15 years.  Some of the opportunities that I’ve had during my life so far have been to volunteer and perform for:

The Mott Children's Health Center and Hurley Hospital in Flint with Blunt Force Trauma

Most Holy Trinity’s Annual Children’s Christmas Party

The Relay for Life in Garden City

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk

The Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit

Garden City’s 789+ Athletic Booster Club at the High School and Middle School

(to be continued…)

I thank everyone for their support.  I live for Detroit, keeping the blues alive, and simply being able to play music from the heart and soul. Cool
